Hinged security door

A townhouse entry, approved and fitted

The owner of a Helensvale townhouse wanted to leave the front door open for the breeze, but the entry faces the complex driveway and any change needed body corporate approval. A complete application got the colour approved in a week.

The black hinged security door on the townhouse entry, in the colour and style the body corporate approved.

The brief

The townhouse is in a complex close to the Helensvale station. The front door opens onto the shared driveway, and the courtyard is at the back, so leaving the front door open would pull a breeze right through the house. Without a screen, that meant leaving the house open to the driveway.

The owner wanted a security door that gave some privacy from the driveway, matched the other entries in the complex and would get through body corporate approval without a fuss.

What we fitted

Before quoting, the owner asked the body corporate manager whether the complex had a set specification. It did: black frames to match the windows. At the measure we brought stainless, perforated and grille samples, and the owner chose perforated aluminium, which gives more daytime privacy from the driveway than mesh.

We supplied what the committee needed: a written quote, the product and infill details, the exact powder-coat colour, a photo of the entry marked up to show the door, and our QBCC licence and insurance details. The committee approved it within a week. The door is a hinged security door built and tested to AS 5039, installed to AS 5040, with a three-point lock and a closer.

On the day

We ordered once the approval was in writing, and the door was fitted three weeks after the measure. The install took a morning: the crew hung the door, adjusted the closer and checked the lock against each keeper, booked through the complex manager so they could park on site.

Before leaving, they showed the owner how to adjust the closer and keep the hinges and lock running smoothly.

The result

The front door now stays open most of the day behind the security door, with the breeze running through to the courtyard. From the driveway it looks like every other entry in the complex.
