Outdoor blinds on the Gold Coast

We make and install outdoor blinds for Gold Coast patios, alfrescos and balconies: zip track blinds, straight drop and channel blinds, auto guide blinds and clear PVC cafe blinds, manual or motorised. Every blind is measured by our team for the opening and its exposure to wind, with a free written quote.

Types of outdoor blinds we install.

The right outdoor blind depends on how exposed the alfresco is and how you use it. Five types cover most Gold Coast homes, each made to measure and fitted by our own team.

Choose your fabric.

Sunscreen mesh

Clear PVC

Tinted PVC

Blockout canvas

Sunscreen mesh

Shade that still lets you see out.

Sunscreen mesh is a woven PVC-coated fabric that blocks much of the sun and glare while you can still see the garden. Air moves through it, so the alfresco stays cooler than behind a solid blind. It is the fabric most families choose for west-facing patios.

Cuts glare and heat from the western sun
Keeps the view and some airflow

Clear PVC

Keep the view, lose the wind.

Clear PVC keeps out wind and rain completely while you look straight through it, which turns a deck into a room you can use on cool winter evenings. It does not breathe, so in summer you roll it up and let the breeze back in.

Tinted PVC

A softer view with less glare.

Tinted PVC works like clear PVC but cuts some of the glare, which helps on balconies that look over water or face the afternoon sun. You still see out, and passers-by see a little less of the deck during the day.

Less glare than clear PVC
Blocks wind and rain

Blockout canvas

Full shade and full privacy.

A solid outdoor fabric that blocks the sun and the view completely. It suits the side of a patio that faces a neighbour or a road, and spare rooms under the house. Most homes use it on one or two sides and sunscreen mesh on the rest.

Spring-assisted manual

A handle or crank lowers the blind and a spring in the tube helps it back up. Simple, reliable and the lowest cost.

Zip track blinds

Battery motor

A rechargeable motor in the tube with a remote. No electrician needed, so it suits blinds added to an existing alfresco.

Ask about battery motors

Hardwired motor

A motor wired to a wall switch or home automation by a licensed electrician, best planned before the ceiling is lined.

Many alfrescos open off a sliding door. A sliding security door lets you leave it open behind the blinds.

Made for Gold Coast weather.

An outdoor blind on the Gold Coast deals with three things most days: wind off the water or the paddocks, the low western sun and salt in the air. We measure for all three.

Wind

Held in the channels

Zip track fabric is locked into its side channels, so it holds firm in a stiff breeze where a loose blind would flap. Each system has a wind rating set by its width and drop, and every blind should be raised when a storm warning is issued.

Sun

Matched to the aspect

West-facing alfrescos take the hottest sun of the day. We suggest a tighter sunscreen weave for those, and a more open weave for sheltered east and south sides where the view matters more.

Salt

Coated and rinsed

Headboxes and channels are powder-coated aluminium with stainless fixings. Near the water, a fresh-water rinse every month or two and letting the fabric dry before rolling it up keeps the blind running smoothly.

Headboxes, channels and colours.

The headbox at the top and the channels at each side are powder coated to match your frames or gutters, so the blinds look part of the house when they are up.

A headbox protects the rolled fabric from sun and rain and hides the motor. Bottom rails lock at the floor or the balustrade so the blind stays put, and we fit each channel square to the opening so the zip runs smoothly for years.

Warranty

A warranty you can read.

Every outdoor blind comes with a written schedule that says what is covered and for how long. Frames carry 10 years, and we hand the schedule over on the day we install, with care notes for homes near the water.

The warranty covers faults in materials and workmanship. It does not cover damage from blinds left down in storm winds, impact, or harsh cleaning products on the fabric or PVC.

Price

What affects the price.

Every outdoor blind is made to measure, so the price comes from your alfresco rather than a catalogue. A zip track outdoor blind typically sits between $1,400 and $3,200 installed, per blind. Four things move it most.

01

Width and drop

Wider and taller openings need a larger tube and headbox.

02

Fabric

Clear PVC and blockout canvas cost more than standard sunscreen mesh.

03

Manual or motor

Motors, remotes and wind sensors add the most.

04

Fixing surface

Brick, timber and steel beams each need different brackets.

Questions about outdoor blinds.

Still weighing it up? Send us a photo of the alfresco and tell us which way it faces, and we will suggest a blind and a fabric.

How do zip track blinds handle Gold Coast wind?

The zip edge locks the fabric into the side channels, so the blind stays tight in a stiff breeze instead of flapping. Every system has a wind rating that depends on its width and drop, and we give you that in writing. Raise the blinds when a storm warning is issued.

Should I leave outdoor blinds down in a storm?

No. Raise them when strong winds or a storm are forecast. A lowered blind acts like a sail in gusts, and storm damage from blinds left down is not covered by warranty. A motor with a wind sensor can raise them for you.

Sunscreen mesh or clear PVC?

Sunscreen mesh cuts sun and glare and lets air through, so it suits summer and west-facing alfrescos. Clear PVC blocks wind and rain completely, so it suits decks you want to use in winter. Many homes use sunscreen on the sunny side and PVC on the windy side.

Do zip track blinds keep insects out?

They help a lot. The zip edge seals the sides, and the bottom rail sits on the floor or a rail, so there are few gaps. For a fully insect-proof alfresco, ask us about insect mesh fabric.

Can outdoor blinds be motorised later?

Some can be fitted with a battery motor later, but it is simpler and often cheaper to order the blind motorised. If you want hardwired motors, plan them before the alfresco ceiling is lined so the electrician can run cable.

Do I need council or body corporate approval?

Outdoor blinds on a house do not usually need council approval. In a townhouse or unit, the body corporate often has rules on colour and fabric for balconies. We can supply product details and colour information for your application.

How do I clean outdoor blinds?

Hose the fabric with fresh water and wash with mild soapy water and a soft brush. Wipe PVC with a soft cloth only. Let the blind dry before rolling it up so it does not mark or mould, and rinse the channels near the coast.

How long do outdoor blinds take to install?

Most blinds are made two to three weeks after you accept the quote, and motorised blinds can take a little longer. A typical alfresco with three or four blinds is fitted in a day.
