Perforated aluminium security screens
Perforated aluminium is a solid aluminium sheet punched with fine holes and powder coated to match your frames. We use it in security doors and window screens made to measure for Gold Coast homes, tested to AS 5039, installed to AS 5040 and backed by a 10 year warranty on infill and frame.

Why choose perforated aluminium?
Perforated aluminium suits homes that want a tested security screen with a little more privacy and a little less upkeep than stainless mesh.
Because it is one solid sheet, there is no weave to pull at and nothing to rust, even close to the water. It takes knocks from kids, prams and dogs well, and the punched pattern softens glare and makes a room harder to see into on a bright day, while you still see out. Airflow is a little lower than stainless mesh and the view is a little busier, which is why many homes use it on street-facing doors and bathrooms and stainless mesh where there is a view.

Hinged security doors
Privacy at the front door.
A hinged door with a perforated aluminium infill makes the hallway harder to see into from the street, while the timber door behind it stands open for the breeze.

French and double doors
A matched pair that takes knocks.
French and double doors with a perforated infill stand up to outdoor furniture, kids and dogs, and lock as one with flush bolts on the second leaf.

Window security screens
Bathrooms and street-side rooms.
Fixed and openable window screens with a perforated infill give daytime privacy to bathrooms, bedrooms and front rooms without closing the window.
Street-facing doors
Perforated aluminium
Harder to see into on a bright day, with the same tested strength as stainless mesh.
Rentals
Perforated aluminium
Tough and low upkeep, with nothing to rust if tenants never rinse the screens.
With a view
Consider stainless mesh
Where the view and airflow matter most, stainless mesh is clearer to look through.

A perforated screen is a system: sheet, clamp, frame and finish. Here is what each part does.

1 Sheet
2 Clamp
3 Frame
4 Finish
Solid perforated aluminium
One solid aluminium sheet, punched with fine holes in an even pattern. There is no weave to pull apart, and the sheet resists a knife, a kick and a pull from outside.
Material
Aluminium sheet
Pattern
Fine, even round holes
Best for
Privacy and hard wear
Screw-clamped into the frame
The sheet is clamped into the frame with screws along every side, so it stays put under load and cannot be pushed out of the frame.
Fixing
Screw clamp on all four sides
Tested as
A complete screen to AS 5039
Best for
Every door and window
Extruded aluminium frame
A heavy-section aluminium frame carries the load from the sheet to the hinges, lock or fixings, made to the millimetre for each opening.
Material
6063 extruded aluminium
Corners
Mitred and screwed
Best for
Every opening
One powder-coated colour
Sheet and frame are powder coated in the same colour, so the screen reads as one panel. Darker colours are easier to see through from inside.

What it costs and why.
Perforated aluminium usually costs a little less than stainless mesh. A hinged perforated aluminium door typically costs $650 to $990 fitted. Four things decide where yours lands.
Read the price guide01
Size of the opening
Larger doors and windows need a bigger sheet and a heavier frame.
02
Door or window
Doors add hinges or rollers, locks and a closer to the sheet and frame.
03
Number of openings
Several screens measured and fitted in one visit cost less each.
04
Lock and hardware
Keyed-alike cylinders and heavier closers add a little to the price.

See all questionsIs perforated aluminium as strong as stainless mesh?
Both are tested to AS 5039 as complete screens, so both are true security screens. Stainless mesh gives the clearer view; perforated aluminium gives more privacy and takes knocks well.
Can people see in through perforated aluminium?
On a bright day it is hard to see into the room while you still see out. At night, with lights on inside, the effect reverses, so add a blind where you want privacy in the evening.
Will it rust near the coast?
Aluminium does not rust. Salt can still dull the powder coat if it is never cleaned, so rinse the screens with fresh water every few months, more often near a canal or the Broadwater.
Does it let the breeze through?
Yes, though a little less than stainless mesh because more of the sheet is solid. Most people do not notice the difference on a windy coastal afternoon.
Does it keep insects out?
Yes. The holes are fine enough to keep out flies and mosquitoes, so the screen replaces the fly screen in that door or window.
How long does installation take?
Your screens are made two to three weeks after you accept the written quote. A door takes one to three hours to fit and most windows 20 to 40 minutes each.
