Fly screens and pet doors on the Gold Coast
We make and install fly screen doors, window fly screens, retractable screens and pet doors for Gold Coast homes, in frames and mesh that outlast builder-grade screens. Every screen is measured by our team and made to order, with pet-resistant and midge mesh options and a free written quote.

Fly screens and pet doors we install.
Most homes need a mix: hinged or sliding fly doors, screens on every window that opens, and a pet door where the dog comes and goes. Everything is made to measure in our Coomera workshop.

Midge mesh

Standard fibreglass mesh
Light, clear and low cost.
Charcoal fibreglass mesh is the standard insect mesh on most homes. It is soft, easy to see through and inexpensive to replace, which suits windows nobody leans on. It will not rust, though it tears more easily than metal mesh where kids or pets push against it.

Aluminium insect mesh
Stiffer and longer lasting.
Aluminium mesh holds its shape better than fibreglass and stands up to the afternoon sun on west-facing windows. It is a sensible step up for doors that get daily use. Close to salt water, it needs a fresh-water rinse to keep it from dulling.

Pet-resistant mesh
For dogs that scratch to come in.
A heavier vinyl-coated mesh that resists claws and paws far better than standard mesh. It is thicker to look through, so we usually fit it to the lower panel of a door or to the one screen the dog uses, and keep clearer mesh on the windows.

Fine midge mesh
For homes near the canals.
Sandflies and midges come straight through standard mesh on still evenings near the canals and the Broadwater. Midge mesh has a finer weave that stops most of them. It cuts airflow slightly, so we suggest it for bedrooms and the rooms you sit in at dusk.
Fly screen doors
Hinged and sliding fly doors in powder-coated frames, with rollers that run smoothly and a latch that catches every time.

New and replacement screens, made to fit each window so there are no gaps for insects at the corners.

Small, medium and large pet doors fitted into a screen door or panel at the right height for your pet.
Pet doorsStep up to security
If you want the door to stop a person as well as insects, a tested security screen does both jobs in one frame.
Security screen optionsA fly screen is not a security screen.
Fly screens and security screens can look alike from the street, but they are built for different jobs. It helps to know the difference before you choose.
Compare security screen optionsFly mesh
Built to stop insects
A fly screen uses soft mesh held in its frame by a rubber spline. It keeps out flies and mosquitoes, but a person can push or cut through it.
AS 5039
Built to stop people
A security screen uses steel mesh or aluminium sheet clamped into a heavier frame, tested to AS 5039 for knife, impact and pull. It also keeps insects out.
Pet doors
An opening by design
A pet door leaves a gap a hand can reach through, so we fit them to fly screens and explain what changes before we fit one to any security door.
Frames, rollers and colours.
The frame is what makes a fly screen last, so ours are extruded aluminium with corner stakes rather than the thin roll-formed frames many builders fit.
Sliding fly doors run on adjustable rollers so they stay square as the house settles, and hinged doors can have a closer so they swing shut behind the kids. Frames are powder coated to match your window frames or security doors, so the whole house matches.

What affects the price.
Every screen is made to measure, so the price comes from your openings rather than a catalogue. A fly screen door typically sits between $180 and $360 installed, and a window fly screen between $85 and $190. Four things move it most.
01
Size and type
Sliding doors and wide windows need larger frames and more mesh.
02
Mesh
Pet and midge mesh cost more than standard fibreglass.
03
Extras
Closers, pet doors and retractable cassettes add parts and time.
04
Number of screens
Doing the whole house in one visit keeps the cost per screen down.

Where we install fly screens.
Based in Coomera, we fit fly screens and pet doors from Ormeau to Southport and across the Logan southern fringe. The measure and quote are free in every suburb we cover.
All service areasQuestions about fly screens.
Still weighing it up? Send us a photo of the screen or opening and we will tell you what fits and roughly what it costs.
See all questionsCan you replace the fly screens our builder fitted?
Yes. Builder-grade screens often use thin frames that bend and loose mesh that sags. We measure each opening and make replacement screens to fit, usually in the same visit for the whole house.
Can you re-mesh a fly screen instead of replacing it?
If the frame is straight and the corners are sound, yes. Re-meshing usually costs less than a new screen. If the frame is bent or the corners have split, a new screen is the better buy.
What is the best mesh for dogs?
Pet-resistant mesh is a heavier vinyl-coated mesh that stands up to claws. It is thicker to look through, so we usually fit it to the lower panel of the door the dog uses and keep clearer mesh elsewhere.
Will midge mesh stop sandflies?
It stops most of them. The finer weave keeps out the small biting insects that come through standard mesh near the canals. It reduces airflow a little, so we suggest it for the rooms you use at dusk.
Can you put a pet door in a security door?
We can, but a pet door creates an opening a hand can reach through, which changes the security rating of the door. We will show you where it can go and what that means before you decide. A pet door in a fly screen or a separate panel is often the simpler option.
What size pet door do I need?
We size it to your pet, measuring shoulder width and height, and set it low enough that they step through rather than jump. We fit small, medium and large sizes.
Do fly screens work on bi-fold doors?
Yes, with a retractable screen that pulls across the opening and rolls away into a slim cassette when you do not need it. We measure the whole span and the head height before we quote.
How long does it take to make and fit fly screens?
Most screens are made two to three weeks after you accept the quote. A whole house of window screens and a couple of fly doors usually takes a few hours to fit.
