Pacific Pines · charcoal mesh zip track blinds on a west-facing alfresco

Outdoor blinds

Zip track outdoor blinds

Zip track blinds close in the patio or alfresco against sun, wind and rain, with the fabric edges locked into side channels so the blind stays put. We make each one to measure in mesh, clear PVC or canvas, manual or motorised, and fit them with our own crew.

Why choose zip track blinds?

Most Gold Coast alfrescos are built for summer evenings, then sit empty when the afternoon sun comes in low or a southerly picks up.

Zip track blinds turn the alfresco into a room you can use most of the year. A zip along each edge of the fabric runs in an aluminium side channel, so the blind cannot flap or billow and the gaps at the sides that let in wind, rain and insects are closed. Mesh fabrics cut glare and heat while you still see the yard; clear PVC keeps out wind and rain in winter. Every system has a wind limit, so they should still be raised in strong winds and storms, and motorised blinds can include a sensor that does it for you.

Sunscreen mesh

Shade that keeps the view.

An open-weave outdoor mesh that cuts glare and heat while you still see out to the yard. It lets the breeze through and suits west-facing alfrescos and pool areas.

See out, with daytime privacy

Clear PVC

Keep the view, lose the wind.

A clear, flexible PVC that keeps out wind and rain while the view stays open. It turns a patio into a room for winter evenings, though it does hold heat on still summer days.

Canvas and blockout

Full shade and privacy.

A solid outdoor fabric that blocks sun and views completely. It suits sides of the alfresco that face a neighbour or a road, or a blind you want closed through the hottest part of the day.

Outdoor fabrics made to sit in the sun and the weather. We bring samples of each to the measure so you can see the shade and the view from your own alfresco.

Warranty

5 years on fabric

Best for

Alfrescos, patios and pools

Zipped into the side channels

A zip welded to each edge of the fabric runs in an aluminium channel fixed to the posts or walls. It holds the fabric taut, so it does not flap and there are no gaps at the sides.

Channels

Aluminium, powder coated

Edges

Welded zip, both sides

Best for

Exposed and windy patios

A weighted bottom bar

An aluminium bar along the bottom keeps the fabric straight and seals against the floor or the deck, so rain and insects stay out at the base.

Material

Aluminium, powder coated

Seal

Rubber seal to the floor

Best for

Keeping rain out at the base

Manual or motorised

Manual blinds are spring assisted, so a push or pull lifts and lowers them. Motorised blinds run on a remote or wall switch, with a wind sensor that raises them when it gusts.

What it costs and why.

Most zip track outdoor blinds we install cost between $1,400 and $3,200 per blind fitted. Four things decide where yours land.

Read the price guide

01

Size of the opening

Wider and taller blinds need more fabric, stronger channels and a heavier bottom bar.

02

Fabric

Clear PVC and premium mesh cost more than standard outdoor mesh.

03

Manual or motorised

Motors, remotes and wind sensors add to the price of each blind.

04

Fixing points

Brick, timber posts and steel beams each need different fixings and packing.

See all questions

How do zip track blinds handle wind?

Zip track blinds lock the edge of the fabric into side channels, so they stay put and do not flap the way loose blinds can. Every system still has a wind limit, so retract them in strong winds and storms. Motorised blinds can include a wind sensor that does this for you.

Mesh or clear PVC?

Mesh cuts glare and heat and lets the breeze through, so it suits summer. Clear PVC keeps out wind and rain and suits winter, but holds heat on still days. Many alfrescos use mesh on the sunny side and PVC on the windward side.

Do zip track blinds keep insects out?

Mostly, yes. With the edges in the channels and the bottom bar sealed to the floor, there are no side gaps, so most insects stay out when the blinds are down.

Can they be motorised later?

Some manual systems can be converted, but it is simpler and cheaper to choose a motor at the start. If there is a chance you will want one, tell us at the measure so we can plan for power.

How long does installation take?

Your blinds are made two to three weeks after you accept the written quote. Most alfrescos with two or three blinds are fitted in a day.

How do I look after them?

Rinse the fabric and channels with fresh water every few months, more often near the coast, and wipe clear PVC with mild soapy water and a soft cloth. Let blinds dry before rolling them up for long periods.
