Indoor blinds

Motorised blinds

Motorised blinds raise and lower at the touch of a remote, a wall switch or your phone, or on a timer while you are out. We make each one to measure in blockout, light-filtering or sunscreen fabric, with rechargeable battery or hardwired motors, and can motorise many existing roller blinds.

Why choose motorised blinds?

Motorised blinds make sense where a blind is hard to reach, where there are many blinds to open each morning, or where there should be no chain at all.

A small motor sits inside the roller tube, so the blind looks the same as a standard roller with nothing hanging beside it. One remote can run a single blind, a room or the whole house, and a hub adds phone control and timers, so the blinds close against the afternoon sun while you are at work. With no chain or cord, they are the simplest child-safe option for children’s rooms, and they suit high windows, stairwells and wide living areas where a chain would be awkward.

Timers close west-facing blinds in the afternoon and open them again in the evening

Battery motors

No electrician needed.

A rechargeable battery motor sits inside the tube and charges through a small port with a USB lead, usually every few months depending on use. It suits existing homes and retrofits.

No wiring or power point needed
Suits most existing windows

Hardwired motors

Set and forget for new builds.

A mains-powered motor wired in by a licensed electrician, with no charging ever. It is the best fit for new builds and renovations where the wiring can be run before the plaster goes up.

Plan it before the plaster

Outdoor motors

The same remote for the alfresco.

Zip track outdoor blinds can run on motors paired to the same remote or hub as the indoor blinds, with a wind sensor that raises them when it gusts.

No wiring, no mess. Many existing roller blinds can take a battery motor.

A motor inside the tube

The motor sits inside the roller tube, so the blind looks like a standard roller. Top and bottom limits are set on the day so the fabric stops in the same place every time.

What it costs and why.

Most motorised roller blinds we install cost between $520 and $980 per blind fitted. Four things decide where yours land.

Read the price guide

01

Size of the blind

Wider and heavier blinds need a larger tube and a stronger motor.

02

Fabric

Blockout and premium sunscreen fabrics cost more than standard ranges.

03

Battery or hardwired

Hardwired motors add an electrician’s cost but never need charging.

04

Controls and hub

A hub, wall switches and multi-channel remotes add to the total.

Questions about motorised blinds.

Send us a photo of the windows and tell us whether you are building or retrofitting, and we will suggest a motor before we visit.

See all questions

Can my existing blinds be motorised?

Often, yes, especially roller blinds in good condition. Some older or very small blinds are easier to replace than convert. We check each blind at the measure and tell you which is better value.

Battery or hardwired: which is better?

Battery motors need no wiring and suit existing homes; they charge every few months. Hardwired motors never need charging and suit new builds, where an electrician can run the cabling before the plaster goes on.

Do I need an electrician?

Only for hardwired motors. We work with your electrician or builder on the position of each power point and connect the blinds once the wiring is in.

Can I control them from my phone?

Yes, with a hub. The hub connects the blinds to an app for phone control, timers and scenes, such as closing every west-facing blind at 2 pm.

What happens in a power cut?

Battery motors keep working. Hardwired blinds stay where they are until the power returns, then work as normal.

How long does installation take?

Your blinds are made two to three weeks after you accept the written quote. Fitting and pairing each blind to its remote takes 20 to 30 minutes.
