Sliding security doors

Why choose a sliding security door?

Sliding doors are the busiest opening in most Gold Coast homes. They lead to the patio, the pool and the breeze, and through summer they stay open from breakfast until bed.

A sliding security door lets you leave the glass open while the screen stays locked, so fresh air comes in and nothing else does. It runs on its own track in front of the glass, keeps intruders and insects out and wandering pets in, and does not change how you use the room. Fine stainless mesh keeps the view to the garden, and a flush lock means nothing catches as you walk through.

Stainless mesh

Perforated aluminium

Privacy mesh

Stainless steel mesh

A clear view, day and night.

Fine 316 stainless mesh is woven tight enough to resist a knife and open enough that you barely notice it. It is our first choice for sliders that face the water, the pool or the garden.

Best for coastal homes
Stands up to claws and paws

Perforated aluminium

Tough, private and rust-free.

A solid aluminium sheet punched with fine holes, powder coated to match the slider frame. It shrugs off knocks from kids and dogs, will not rust near salt air and makes it harder to see in on a bright day.

Daytime privacy for street-facing sliders
Will not rust, even close to the water

Privacy mesh

See out while less is seen in.

Mesh with a one-way effect in daylight, so you see the garden clearly while neighbours see less of the room. It suits sliders that face the street, a shared driveway or a neighbour’s deck.

One-way effect on a bright day
Keeps the breeze and the view out

Near the coast

316 stainless steel mesh

Marine grade, so salt air from the Broadwater and canals will not eat it, as long as it gets a fresh-water rinse every few months.

With pets

Stainless or perforated aluminium

Both stand up to claws and paws far better than fly mesh. For a dog that leans on the door, ask about a solid kick panel at the base.

For privacy

Privacy mesh or aluminium

Both make it harder to see in on a bright day while you still see out. A good fit for sliders that face the street or a neighbour.

Marine-grade 316 stainless mesh

The mesh does the real work. Woven 316 stainless steel resists knives, impact and salt air, yet it is fine enough that you look straight through it to the garden.

Material

316 stainless steel

Fixing

Screw-clamped into the frame, never glued

Best for

Coastal and canal homes

Extruded aluminium frame

A heavy-section aluminium frame carries the load from the mesh to the track. Corners are mitred and screwed, and every frame is powder-coated to match your slider.

Material

6063 extruded aluminium

Finish

Powder-coated in 24 standard colours

Best for

Every opening, made to the millimetre

Triple-point lock

A key turns three bolts at once: top, middle and bottom. The panel cannot be levered off at one corner, and the cylinder can be keyed alike to your front door.

Locking

Three-point, key and snib

Cylinder

Keyed alike on request

Best for

Front doors and patio sliders

Heavy-duty rollers and anti-lift blocks

Sealed rollers carry the door along its own track, set so it glides with one hand. Anti-lift blocks stop the panel being lifted out of the track from outside.

Rollers

Sealed bearings, adjustable height

Track

Aluminium, fixed to the existing frame

Sliders and stackers

What it costs and why.

Most XO sliding security doors we install cost between $950 and $1,650 fitted, with four-panel stackers costing more. Four things decide where yours lands.

Read the price guide

01

Size of the opening

Wider and taller sliders need more mesh, a heavier frame and bigger rollers.

02

Mesh or infill

316 stainless costs more than perforated aluminium, and earns it near the coast.

03

Number of panels

An OXXO stacker has twice the panels, tracks and locks of a single XO door.

04

Your existing frame

Uneven sills, tiles or a frame that is out of square can need a new track.

Four steps to a safer slider.

Questions about sliding doors.

Send us a photo of your slider and the track, and we will tell you what fits before we visit.

See all questions

Can a security door be fitted to my existing slider?

Yes. A sliding security door runs on its own track, fixed to the existing door frame in front of the glass. We check the frame, the sill and the clearance to the handles at the measure, and allow for packing where a frame is out of square.

What is the difference between XO and OXXO?

The letters describe the panels as you look from outside: O is fixed and X slides. An XO door has one fixed and one sliding panel. An OXXO stacker has two fixed outer panels and two sliding panels that meet in the middle.

Will it make my slider harder to use?

Not if it is measured and fitted properly. We set the rollers so the screen glides with one hand and fit a flush lock that does not catch as you walk through. A wipe of the track every month or two keeps it that way.

Can I add a pet door to a sliding security door?

A pet door cut into a security screen lowers its security rating, so we usually suggest a pet door in a separate fly screen instead. We will show you both options at the measure.

How long does installation take?

Your door is made two to three weeks after you accept the written quote. Fitting usually takes two to three hours for an XO door and most of a morning for a four-panel stacker.

How do I look after it near the coast?

Rinse the mesh and frame with fresh water every few months, more often if you are on a canal or near the Broadwater. Vacuum grit out of the bottom track and wipe the rollers so the door keeps running smoothly.
