Pet doors for screen doors
A pet door lets the dog or cat come and go through a screen door without anyone getting up to open it. We fit pet doors in small, medium and large sizes into new and existing fly screen doors, with pet mesh around them, and show you the options for security doors at the measure.

Why fit a pet door in a screen?
Most dogs and cats spend the day going in and out of the back door. Without a pet door, that means either a person on call or a screen door left open for the flies.
A pet door in the screen door solves both. The flap swings both ways and closes behind the pet, so the insects stay out, and it locks shut at night or when you want the pet inside. We size it to your animal, set it at the right height so they step through rather than jump, and surround it with pet mesh so claws do not tear the screen beside it. A pet door cut into a security door creates an opening a hand can reach through and lowers its security rating, which is why we usually suggest a pet door in a separate fly screen instead.

In a fly screen door
The simplest place for a pet door.
A hinged or sliding fly screen door with a pet door built in and pet mesh around it. It is light, low cost and does not affect a security door elsewhere in the house.

In a security door
Possible, with a trade-off.
A pet door can be fitted into many security doors, but the opening is a weak point and the door may no longer perform as it did when tested to AS 5039. We will show you where it can go and what that means before you decide.

A separate pet screen
Keep the security door as tested.
On a wide slider, keep the security door on the main opening and add a fly screen panel with a pet door beside it, so the pet has its own way in.
Small dogs and cats
Small or medium flap
Measured to the widest point of the shoulders, with the bottom set at the height of their step.
Large dogs
Large flap in a fly door
A large flap in a fly screen door with pet mesh, rather than a large hole in a security door.
Scratchers
Pet mesh throughout
Pet mesh on the whole door stops claws tearing the screen while they wait to come in.

A flap that closes. In a screen that holds.
A pet door is a small part of the screen, but it has to stand up to daily use. Here is what goes into every one we fit.

Clear, self-closing flap
A clear flap swings both ways and falls shut behind your pet, so insects stay out and the pet can see through it before stepping out.

Moulded frame, fixed both sides
The pet door frame clamps the screen from both sides, so it cannot be pushed out of the mesh by a dog going through at speed.

Lockable from inside
A slide-in cover or lock closes the pet door at night or when you want the pet inside, without taking the screen off.

See all questionsCan I have a pet door in a security door?
Yes, a pet door can be fitted into many security doors. The opening is a weak point, though, and a door with one fitted may no longer perform as it did when tested to AS 5039. We will show you where it can go and what it means before you decide.
What size pet door do I need?
We measure your pet across the widest point of the shoulders and from the floor to the top of the back. The flap should be a little wider and taller than both.
Can you fit a pet door to my existing screen door?
Usually, if the frame is straight and the mesh is sound. If the screen is torn or bent, a new door with the pet door built in is often better value.
Can the pet door be locked?
Yes. A cover slides in from inside to close it at night or when you want your pet to stay in.
Will other animals get in?
Any pet door can let in an animal of the same size. Locking it at night stops possums and neighbourhood cats wandering in.
How long does installation take?
A pet door in an existing screen door takes about an hour. A new screen door with a pet door is made two to three weeks after you accept the quote.
